Shadowlands 9.1 - Sanctum of Domination Raid Strategies

Hello Team,

We can use this forum thread to post and discuss potential strategies for overcoming the encounters in this raid tier.

Raid Release Schedule

July 06: Normal and Heroic
July 13: Mythic and LFR Wing 1
July 27: LFR Wing 2
Aug 10: LFR Wing 3
Aug 24: LFR Wing 4

As we discussed in our pre-raid meeting, we will be occassionally using LFR to familiarize ourselves with the raid encounters, allowing us to assist any raiders that are having a difficult time with a mechanic.

As a general overview of the raid, you can checkout the illustrious Wowhead’s article @ Sanctum of Domination Raid Overview - Release Date, Boss Guides, Rewards - Guides - Wowhead

The Tarragrue

The Jailer’s relentless beast, the Tarragrue, has stalked the halls of Torghast since its first spire was raised. Countless victims have felt their souls trampled to ash by this monstrosity, which now awaits the mortal champions breaching the threshold of the tower.

Quick Strategy

  • There is an anima power that knocks back fellow raiders. Do not select an anima power that will hurt your fellow raiders. At least one raider should, also, select the stun/fear immunity power [Ever-Beating Heart].
  • The person, or persons, that select the stuff/fear immunity power needs to intercept the ‘Chains of Eternity’ cast. This can be done by marking a spot in the raid encounter for targeted players to move, and then the stun/fear immune player can move between the marker and the Tarragrue.
  • The Tarragrue will cast an ability called [Predator’s Howl]. Players will need to spread out around the encounter area to negate this ability. In essence, it causes players to have an “aura of dread” surround them – fearing anyone that’s within 5 yards of them.
  • :shield: Tanks need to swap after every cast over [Overpower].
  • Druids, hunters, and rogues will need to remove the Tarragrue’s periodic enrage [Fury of the Ages] buff as quickly as plausible.
  • The Tarragrue will casts [Hungering Mists], which causes the room to go dark and erupts with AoE damage in multiple areas – find a safe spot(s) to stand until the room is no longer dark.

Eye of the Jailer

When Azeroth was young, Odyn traded his eye to Mueh’zala to peer into the Shadowlands. Vain Odyn was deceived, for the Jailer twisted the Eye to serve his own ends. The Eye’s unwavering gaze allows the Jailer to see all that transpires within his domain – and perhaps others as well

  • This fight swaps back and forth between two phases, with the swaps happening at each quarter of the boss’s health.
  • Phase 1:
    • :shield: Tanks will swap when taking the [Deathlink] cast. This is to maximize the amount of damage that can be mitigated by the tanks, thereby also preventing a portion of the raid wide damage.
    • Dodge the AoE swirls that appear on the ground. Getting hit will split three parts off of your soul. If you get hit, you will need to collect those three pieces. It’s not mentions in the guide, but this likely deals damage the longer you have fracture soul pieces to collect – or some other bad debuff, like dealing less damage.
    • Hero/Timewarp should be saved for the last 25% of the encounter, as the boss goes into an enrage. This is a DPS check. Raiders should, also, ensure their major CDs align with the Hero/Timewarp buff during this last phase.
  • Phase 2
    • Keep the adds more than 30 yards apart. They cast an additional ability (Suffering) if they are within 30 yards of each other.
    • Kill the adds at the same time. Moderate raid-wide damage will pulsate from the corpse of a dead add if its partner is still alive.
    • Stay away from the player with a circle around them.
    • Periodically, there will be pools placed below players (Jailer’s Misery). It is recommended to avoid the front of the encounter area to keep it clear of the pools.

The Nine

The dark pact Sylvanas struck with the val’kyr forged her bond with the Jailer. Through the years, these winged sisters faithfully served the Dark Lady, even if it meant sacrificing themselves on her behalf. Now, Sylvanas calls her nine val’kyr to fight for her one last time.
